Ceramics at Red Rocks Art Studio range from functional vessels to sculptural, nonfunctional forms—each piece shaped by hand and fire, grounded in both tradition and experimentation.
Working in porcelain and stoneware, these forms become surfaces for transformation, where glaze and heat reveal patterns that cannot be fully controlled—only guided.

Crystalline Glaze
Among the studio’s featured works are pieces finished in Blue Floral Crystalline Glaze.
Crystalline glazing is a highly specialized process in which the kiln is carefully controlled to grow crystals within the glaze itself. As the piece cools, these crystals bloom across the surface—each one forming naturally, unpredictably, and uniquely.
No two pieces are ever the same.
The result is a surface that feels alive:
- Crystal formations resembling flowers, frost, or mineral growth
- Depth and movement within the glaze
- A balance between control and chance
Form & Meaning
These crystalline surfaces are paired with both functional forms—such as vases—and sculptural works like the Earth Mother, where the vessel becomes symbolic. In ceramics, as in geology, beauty emerges through time, heat, and pressure—
a record of process, captured in form.
- Earth shaped by hand
- Fire revealing hidden structure
- Form reflecting life, growth, and transformation
